Katie, one of the things I have learned is that if you want to be a good photographer you have to get photoshop and learn it, it makes a world of difference in your pictures.
ILNC i must politely disagree
Photoshop is a tool, it is a part of your processing (like dark room processing), however, Photoshop does not make you a good photographer, you, your knowledge and experience, what makes you a great photogrpaher, not a tool. I agree that PS will "enchance" your shots, but you must strive to make your photos as good as possible while you take them. What will really make you a great photographer is LESS processing and MORE shooting!

I think in a way it does help make you a better photographer, as you learn photo shop you learn how to take better pictures because when you're taking the picture you start to think more about what you're doing. At least this what it does for me. I agree try to make your pictures as good as you can so you have less work to do on them.
ILNC...Sorry but I do agree with Shepsmom...Not because she is a proffesional..But before computers you had to have talent & know how to take a good pic. I really want to learn how to use the camra. The computer is nice that I can do my own developing..fix lite problems. The camera I had before this was a 110 I think I took some decent pic with it..see my pic in the thread crosses! If I can learn to use this 6.2 point & shoot as well Ill be happy!
And I am learning..Its harder to take a building that doesnt move than Katie who does!!
In my opinion, I think both ILNC & Shipm8 are correct. While I'm finding that it takes a good eye and a steady hand to get a good shot, it also takes some good editting/cropping to make a picture even better.
Sometimes you don't know that you might have something better until it's opened up in your photo studio.
Here's what I'm talking about:
This is a picture I took last summer in the park near my house,
This is the same picture cropped, I wouldn't have known there were people near this shelter house....
Katie, the best advice I can give is to increase the picture size in your camera. Then when you open the pictures in a photoshop, you'll find more details and room to crop.

May be, but then again, while you behind the camera and you don't have a vision right there and then, how will PS help you? You have to imagine and see what you or your viewer might want to see in your work at the time you take a picture, not after
