Anybody get any good shots of the Perseids Meteor shower a couple of nights ago? I got a few small ones, and a huge one that got away. A bit disappointing, but not totally skunked. Look carefully for the meteors.

This would have been the best if I'd only gotten the whole thing.

No meteor here, just a cool shot of the Milky Way from the same night.

I've never seen so many stars! You must have been far away from city lights?

Cool shots.

Cool shots.
Thanks! I was 25 miles out in the middle of nowhere. It was a little scary actually.

Nice ones. Didn't image any, but did manage some visual sighting, including one huge fireball that left a glowing green trail.

No meteors, but Milky Way from my driveway last night:

I heard about the fireball, happened before I got set up.

Great view of the MW from your driveway. Try setting WB to tungsten if you're interesting in getting rid of the yellow cast which is caused by light pollution.

You shouldn't be disappointed with these - they are fantastic photos! Thanks for sharing them.

Did you use a special lens? I don't have a fancy DSLR camera (yet!), and wonder whether my little point-and-shoot digital will work for some meteor shots.

Thanks! Lens isn't very special. It's just a good wide angle, fast lens. It's the Canon 16-35 MK II F2.8. The DSLR I used is the Canon 5D Mark II, which has a sensor that's particularly good at long exposures and high ISO. Honestly it would be very difficult to use a P&S for this sort of thing, and even then the image quality would suffer greatly.
