I've seen some posters mention they use some of the Nik plugins. I was wondering, are all of them worth it (to just buy the package)? Second, is it best to have the plugin for photoshop or is the lightroom plugin sufficient?

I've been playing around with the HDR Efex trial and was thinking about buying it, but it seems like a better deal in the long run to buy a package as opposed to buying these individually.

Thoughts?

i looooove nik color efex filters and silver efex is my all time favorite plug in from nik.

75% of all my work uses one of those 2. ill use topaz products sometimes too but no where near the nik.

if you shoot nikon the nikon capture nx2 software is actually wriiten by nik and uses the color point system. its awesome and as a raw editor its so much nicer and easier than photoshop.

i can do in seconds in nx2 with color points what takes minutes in photoshop with masks and layers

Is just the lightroom plugin enough or is there a need to pay the extra money for the photoshop plugin?

Yes, the Nik plugins are great. I use Color Efex Pro with CS5. But when I got CS5 through an educational discount, and then registered it at Adobe, I was offered a free set of plugins from OneOne Software (PhotoTools). A few weeks later I was offered the option to upgrade to PhotoTolls Pro for $49.00, and I jumped at the opportunity since these plugins are as expensive as Nik's. But at an educational discount I only paid $199.00 for Nik Color Efex Pro (cost me as much as CS5).

For HDR you can use CS5, or just a $35.00 application called PhotoMatix.

for hdr i have hdr darkroom, photomatix and the nik hdr pro. my favorite is hdr pro from nik. its fast and clean and so easy to use.
i also get the eductaional discount. nik is offering a big sale on viveza for 199.00. i called yesterday and its 99.00 with the education discount. if i didnt have capture nx2 which already uses the color point system i would buy it so i can use that system in photoshop. its the best!.

I've been using the trial of nik hdr and like it the best so far. Amazon has the complete set of photoshop plugins for $400, bh has the lightroom set for 219 or nik has just the hdr plugin for 100 (through today). I'm trying to decide which to go with or if I would get enough use out of all of them to buy the whole set.
