to get pictures developed that show adult nudity? Like if I go to CVS or Walmart or Rite Aid and get the pictures developed there? Or if I do it by myself on the machines? does it matter how I do it, if I do it?

There's nothing illegal about adult nudity per se, so you're not breaking any laws. However, you are correct to check the policies of the store. Calling is useless though as most likely you'll get different answers depending on who you ask, and possibly different answers when you go to pick up your pictures. I'd get their policy in writing either from the website or maybe the store has one they can give you.
That being said, I would never want a local drugstore to have nude pictures of myself. Someone who worked in such a store recently posted in this forum that the store had a "naughty book" of nude pictures they'd pilfered from their clients. Buy a cheap printer and print them yourself.

Reason: clarification

I was one of those people. Years ago when I worked for a photo lab, they had one there, and I was told that pretty much many labs had their versions of them, too. People would bring in the naughty shots, and somehow think that the employees never saw them, when in fact the ones they deemed funny were copied and put in the "naughty book" to be looked at when they wanted a laugh. And this was BEFORE the dangers of possibly having something you don't want put online, too.
So I agree. I would never... ever... have pics like that printed in a lab. Especially these days. Printers and printer paper are far too available now for home use where you can do it at home. And if it's on the artistic/gallery side you're speaking of, you can even get wide-format printers for just over $200 now for gallery prints that are suitable for framing.
look around in drug store etc....when we were living in RI part time most of the drug stores etc had machines that you processed/printed your own photos so no one else saw them or anything...instant print with cropping features, tweaking an all...look around.

It is illegal to take ,or own photos, of people , either nude or not, unless you have them sign a "model release" that you keep forever on file. However, public domain makes that a gray area so know the laws first!!
Everyone can take photos of family and friends but don't try to publish or sell them without MODEL RELEASE !!

That is wrong, and conflicts with your own references. You can legally take and own pictures of anyone you like (even children) in public places. If you feel otherwise, please cite the exact text which supports your argument.

My understanding is if you take a photo of anyone in a public place, you can own/keep the photo. But if you want to sell the rights to that photo, you had better have a signed model release form from that person.

I love it. You can't even make up such stuff that is so ridiculously ill-intepreted.
