Okay, now I'm confused. Not an animal, not a vegetable, but it is alive.....aren't there just three options- animal, vegetable or mineral?

1)Not fruit of any sort or vegetable, it is not a frog, a salamander or lizard. It is not a part of the body. It is not a peel of any fruit or vegetable. But, several are close with skin and banana.
2) You could eat it, but most people would not want to
3)You can find this in the forest and your yard.
4) It is alive though, not dead.
