I sold my Nikon D3100 and a couple of lenses on Craigslist Wednesday the 31st of Oct. for $750 and ordered off of eBay a barely used (less than 500 shutter actuation's) Nikon D90 body, with a Buy-It-Now bid of less than $500 including shipping. Got it VIA Priority Mail, Friday the 2nd of Nov. and immediately went into the house, opened it up, put the battery in the charger and "READ THE MANUAL" and learned enough of what I needed to know to go start using the D90 and took this Sunset Photo with it. Not bad for a first effort with a "new" camera. I think I am going to like the D90 a lot!
First shot with my D90 over the family farm at sunset. 50mm f/1.8G AF-S FX Prime lens, ISO-200, 1/200 sec @f/6
Actually, your D3100 would have taken the same photo just a capably. The D3100 is more plasticky and has less bells and whistles but the image quality is actually slightly better at higher ISO. The D90 has higher build quality and more 'stuff.'
Having said that I do enjoy your photo! I highly recommend buying a tripod as your next purchase. It will allow you to shoot at the lowest iso for best image quality and sharpness in low light.
The main reason I sold my D3100 is because of it's lack of size and bulk. I'm a larger person 6'4''+ and 230# with over sized hands. The D3100 even with the aftermarket battery grip, just felt too tiny in my mitt's, whereas the D90 feels fantastic even without the MB-80 grip I have just ordered.
And I think that supposed "green patch" is a shade of blue sky!
I could see where that would be an issue for someone with large hands. My D40 was about the same size as the D3100 and being 5' 7" with normal size hands it was right at the line for comfort.

And this was done with Nikon D5100 just few days ago...
