^Milwaukee Avenue@Belmont, Avondale, Chicago. This was the Maryla Polonaise nightclub until 20-some years ago. It's about to make way for a new apartment building.
This used to be a major performance venue for Polish musicians to perform uncensored by the communist authorities at home in the 70s and 80s. There was a bid to preserve it as a cultural landmark around 10 years ago, but nothing came of it and the growth of nearby Logan Square is moving its way up Milwaukee Avenue.
I live just a few blocks away from here. |
