It's pretty cheap for a big lens, but I guess you don't get a good picture... Anyone try such cheap ebay lenses? Maybe it's cheap because it doesn't have image stabilization.

I will bet its cheap because its junk not because of lack of stabilization. These big lenses require so much light that you can only use them under the brightest conditions unless you have a good tripod.
but on this gem the optics have to be pure crap tripod or not.

in cheap lenses the sigma 50-500 or 150-500 mm is about the cheapest lens I would recommend .

A case for a quality big lens cost more than that lens.

F8/f16 hmmm nah
I've read in amazon posted by a user it takes decent pictures but it's an all manual lens.

IMO If your shooting fast moving objects, you better be quick to compose/ focus and shoot repeatedly..

A larger problem than lack of stabilization is that it's completely manual -- focus and aperture are completely manual which means you won't be shooting moving subjects. And keep in mind it really goes to 1300mm @f/8. To get to 2600mm you must attach a 2X TC, which puts the lens at f/16. I have my doubts that you could see well enough to focus at f/16 even in broad daylight.

On the positive side, that lens gets good reviews on Amazon, but there are only five reviews. Opteka has what appears to be the same lens and has 3.5 stars out of 22 reviews. But even the good reviews agree that the lens is really a toy. You're not going to be bragging about the quality of the images from it. But at that price, it would be a fun toy to play with.

Agreed

I didn't go that deep in to the reviews but air first glance it does look like a toy.

the problem is those that have the most interest in this crap are those that have the least amount of money to spend on toys.

they would be better served buying better regular gear or better used gear than start playing around with stuff that they will have no interest in using as they get better.

having just turned 61 i gave notice at my office that as of july i am going to start scaling back and phasing into retirement.

i will work 3-4 days a week for about a year and then pull the plug on working all together.

at this point marilyn and i are buying every piece of quality gear we think we would ever want because once the pay checks stop we won't be able to do these things.

every thing we buy now gets lots of thought as to its usefulness down the road and is it a toy or a quality piece of gear.

beginning photographers who are serious about their photography need to view things the same way, especially if they lack funds. a good quality used camera like a nikon d300 and a quality lens is far more useful than a bridge camera to someone on a budget.

Now THIS is a big lens...

Danny is an avid birding photographer from New Zealand. What looks like a lens cap at the narrow end of the Canon 800mm f/5.6 (FD Mount) is his Sony NEX-7.

Yes, it's pretty cheap. The aperture is probably at f/16 (that is a 16) when you zoom out to 2600mm with the doubler attached. Try shooting with your camera at f/16 aperture or greater...

Someone told me this was a professional bird watcher with over $10,000 in that rig. She got away before I could get to her. This
was maybe 80 to 100 yards away. Photo taken at the Open Space Visitor Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nov 16, 2013, with
a Canon EOS REBEL T3i, and Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM IF Lens.
