When I was out on a shoot this weekend, I put the extra battery for my Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ200 in my jeans pocket. Yesterday I did laundry. Get the picture?
Yep, I ran the battery through the wash. The good news is that the plastic cover that protects half of it as well as the contacts was on.
Do you think I totally ruined it or might it be okay? Fortunately, I caught it in the washer and did not put it in the dryer with my jeans. I haven't tried putting in my camera yet as I just recharged the battery that was in it this weekend.
Rechargeable batteries operate with intermettalic compounds in a potassium hydroxide electrolyte and are very tightly sealed so your battery should work like nothing ever happened.

Not sure why you felt that naming chemical compounds would add anything to the discussion, but you're wrong. This is a lithium-ion battery and isn't constructed like that. It is however sealed, which is the important part.
