Definitely learned my lesson! There's a reason why cameras have cases, wrist straps, neck straps, etc..

I have a true passion for photography but have never really had the means to get a decent camera. That's all going to change in a few weeks. Unfortunately I have no clue where to start looking for a decent, relatively cheap (under $600) DSLR. I don't know much about them.

I'm going on a ride tomorrow so I'll try and get more wildflower shots before the cooler temps make them die out.

Thanks again for the compliments!
If you are on a tight budget, you can get excellent image quality for much less than $600. If you want to do macro (flower close-ups) you will need both a dslr camera with a second zoom lens, (typically 70-300mm).

I would highly recommend looking at the refurbished cameras sold by Adorama.com or B&H Photo Video Digital Cameras, Photography, Camcorders They are probably the two most reputable camera stores in the US, and when you buy refurbished you are simply buying discontinued models that are brand new. I purchased both my Canon Rebel XS DSLR camera ($399 with lens) and Canon 55-250mm EF-S lens ($180.00) refurbished from Adorama. Excellent deal and the very happy with purchase. Keep an eye open for deals like that and you can't go wrong.
