I think these are some kind of bees. They were congregating on a brittlebush.


As the sun came over the hill, they appeared to "wake up". Before I was done half of them had flown away.

this matches photo's of the wood beetle that is destroying Maple trees here on the east coast....no maple trees, no maple syrup!
