Seeing a painter paint is always interesting.

About 12 years ago I took a painting class from a nationally known impressionist painter/teacher and spent as much time photographing her painting, the stages she put paint on the canvas, as I did painting myself. Seeing how a painter creates a painting, step by step, is everything (to a painter) and something that a book doesn't show, although videos can do this well.

This is why Bob Ross was so very popular. He showed how he painted step-by-step.

A really good painter has learned over years of practice how to eliminate the in-between, unnecessary stuff that trips up less experienced painters. They put down each stroke of paint as needed, in the order that works best.

The second photo by Poncho shows an experienced painter who hopes to sell this local scene (but not the one in front of him) to a passerby, painting from memory (or maybe has a photo to refer to.)
