I've been shooting and loved a Nikon D3200. Sadly a four foot drop
onto the rocks killed it yesterday. The D3200 is discontinued and
I'm looking at the D3300 to hopefully get in the next couple of days.
I'm not a bells and whistles person, I just want a camera that is comparable
to what I had. Anyone willing to share their experiences with the D3300, good
or bad? Thanks!

I have one ... it works awsome .. . I still miss my old Nikon D40 though ... If money WAS an issue, I would pick up a used D40 .. The 1080p video on the 3300 is worthless .. any old iphone is better ..

I dropped my 3300 about a week after I got it. Metering error. Luckily there's a decent camera repair guy in town. I want to say it cost $250 or so.

I have one. I can not compare it to other comparable cameras because I have not owned or used any other cameras. All I can say I am satisfied with the Nikon D3300. I think it takes excellent low light photos.

I have a D3300 and I absolutely love the thing.

My only warnings are probably the same for all cameras of this category. 1) On automatic settings it is going to correct you, even if you dont want to be corrected. We were at a park. It started fogging as the sun set. It was dusk. The effect on some fancy park lights across a pond was very pretty with a nice glow all around them. My automatic pic looked like a bright cloudy day, no glow. 2) Not fun to carry around on vacation like in a theme park because it is fairly large and heavy.

Low light is very important to me, thanks Coseau!

I never shoot on automatic, only manual for me. I didn't realize
it was on the heavy side. Thanks ottomobeale!

Carry it around your neck for a while. You'll notice then!

The camera do not seem heavy to me. I carry it around my neck some times for hours walking around the city and it doesn't bother me a bit. I guess it depends on each individual's weight bearing threshold.

contrast and color in jpeg is a function of the taste the manufacturer built in to the camera not the sensor choice . most camera's have user select-able color profiles to pick from . some may just make prettier profiles .

in fact nikon went to a system of picture profiles where all jpegs used with the same profile will look the same as any other nikon model with the same profile . you can choose neutral ,standard ,portrait , etc from the d5 and it will be the same contrast and color balance as the lowest end nikon camera with the same picture profiles .

in fact cell phone generally have some of the nicest profiles built in as they are not expected to be edited at all
