New camera
I have been toying with the idea of replacing my Fugi S9100 with either a Canon or Nikon SLR, but this morning I discovered Fugi's new S100FS...
I hate lugging extra lenses etcetera around, and I like the fact that dust cannot penetrate to the CCD. I like the camera I have now, but I see many improvements here.

They have an 18 optical coming out too....only bad thing is, it can't shoot in RAW mode, and it may not have some of the other features, like the one you are looking at, but I do like that 18 optical! (I'm a sucker for a nice zoom..what can I say?)
FUJIFILM Global | FinePix S8100fd : Overview
I'd take a Fuji over Canon, Kodak, Sony, or any of the others out there, (and I've sold them all) if I can't get my hands on a Nikon....
Now me I'm waiting to see if Nikon really will bring out the 16.7 D400......rumours ya know......
I have the one you are looking at on my bar

Hey Sans, forgot to tell you, if you DO get that camera, don't use XD with it...I know that's what you're probably using, but the Sandisk 4 gig Extreme III SDHC card, is MUCH better than XD for that kind of power in a camera...you get a souped up camera, you need a souped up card. Not to mention the fact that SD costs LESS and you get MORE.
A 2 gig Fuji XD card, runs around 40 bucks. The 4 gigger I mention above costs only 10 bucks more, and you get DOUBLE the capacity and faster image write times.....
Just a thought for ya.

Interesting camera, but I think I prefer the S100 you have sitting on your bar. Higher resolution and zooms to 400mm which I think is enough for me....Have you put it to the test? Thanks for the tip on the sandisk card.....

Now you know me better than that! Of course I have to 'play with the new toys'! Its got that serious crisp color that Fuji is known for....and I love the 'film simulation mode' that lets me shoot as if I were shooting Velvia slide film! (nothing like Velvia for landscapes...NOTHING!) This one will make you want to get away from Auto settings, and really play and discover just what you can do with a camera....only down side: its price tag. On my deck: $799. That's the only thing that will KILL this camera around here, its price.
I'm sure you'd like it.....its got the juice, and all the bells and then some. I just wish they would put the 18 optical on THIS one....its the one that really deserved it!

$799 doesn't seem so bad, considering that I wouldn't have to buy and pack around a bunch of extra lenses...I think I'm sold.. I have had two Fugis and really like the photos they produce...I do like the vivid colors too, and 11 mega pixels suits me.....So this means my daughter will get the S9100...She'll be happy!

I really like the LCD on that camera. Ive never seen one up close but it seems to be reviewed fairly well on most sites where I can find it. It looks really cool as well. Still, at $800 I would consider the new Canon 450D because of the flexibility it offers by having so many lenses available. If you dont want to carry around so many lenses, you can just attach a 50mm or a 24-70mm and youre all set.

Fuji uses some of the best glass in the industry, and their ProDigital DSLR's use Nikon F mount lenses, again, some of the best glass in the world.....(The S5 in fact, looks a whole lot like a Nikon D200/D300.....)
The camera Sanspeur is looking at, would eliminate the need to lug, and still offer great versatility.....
Its really a matter of personal choice.....I think the choice he's made is the best one for the type of photography he enjoys.....
