Architecture sounds good.
Besides its sunny and warm here all year round, so Spring is just a continuation of the other seasons.

1-As far as the 'recent' pictures, for the next contest we'll say the picture should be taken AFTER April 1, 2008. But I am putting you guys on notice that I have no way or intention of policing that rule. This is just for fun contest. So we're on the honor system. So please, no DMs like 'That's a rosary throated double back hummingbird and they are only in Slo-po-kin in October!' OK? I mean if we can't do this and remain friends and retain our dignity then let's just call it a day and chalk the contests up to history. Deal?
In my experience with contests...

My personal opinion is that: You have a contest, the point of the contest is for everyone to get off their bums, go outside and hunt for the best shot they can produce..... This is motivational, this is educational, this is challenging..... If you want to dig in your stuff that's been taken anywhere between 2 month to 10 years ago, sorry, this isn't fair to those who actually go and look for a good shot DURING the competition. So, this is just my opinion, of course, given 2 weeks for picture submission, i don't know if this is enough time for everyone. How do we accomodate everyone? Have a theme announced at the beginning of the month, open picture submission date at the end of that month. I think 1 month is more then sufficient to go and shoot something. Correct me if i'm wrong. Now, winner of the last contest should announce the theme so we can move on and start taking pictures. We can open submission at the end of April. If anyone disagree with anything i said, i'm open for debate.

2-For the sake of the future contests and the integrity of the process, I am instituting a restriction on repeat winners. My questions to you guys are:
a-How long should the restriction last (1 contest between wins, 2 contests...etc)?
b-For the previous winner(s), what role can they play in the current contest to keep them involved? I'm thinking being able to submit a picture but not having a poll option for their pic. Also, how about they get 2 extra votes in the current contest...maybe 3???? That would have to be done manually from my side, but I can do it. Maybe they decide tie-breakers??? HELP!!!
If winner agrees not to participate, that's up to them. I think you're asking this because:
1. We might have some awesome photog who wins all the time
2. Winner might have a subject of preference for the next contest because it's available/possible/ easy to do for that person.
So, what should we do? This is a good question and i see why you would want winner not to participate....

3-How about flowers for the next contest? Or would you guys rather a more general 'spring'?
Flowers are fine with me, as long as they're "fresh"!

One more thing. I have another suggestion. Once contest is open for submission, is it possible NOT to display submitted entries? I wouldn't mine volunteering to receive entries in my email. I can also resize them as needed, to have no more then allowable size (which is?) After contest is open for votes, all of the entries can be displayed at once that day.
How does this sounds??

I think it's a good idea not to display the pictures till the contest is open for votes, if thats possible.

Yeah, I like the surprise of seeing what people came up with too. I'd vote for not showing entries until voting.

As for the theme... was it finally decided that Architecture was it?

This isn't my favorite idea primarily because the contests take so long to complete. Making the winner sit out one means a couple months of sitting around. If the whole process could be sped up it wouldn't be a big deal. But if this is the way it is to be I would vote for no more than one sit out and give them the tie-breaking vote.

We've had different winners each round, haven't we? I think everyone should be allowed to enter the competition. It's just for fun

I completely agree. I've always felt the purpose of contests were to get people's creative juices flowing, and to see what they can come up with - not who has the best picture in their archives.

I've been participating in Project 365 this year (haven't missed a day yet!), and believe me, it's possible to get out there and shoot something within a month. It's possible within two weeks, or even a week. The group I'm doing this project with also has themes every week, and we know about them about three weeks in advance. The time frame has never been a problem, and it's really cool to see people's interpretations of the themes.

Just my two cents - which as we know, isn't worth much these days.

Here you go! Project 365 explained.

Basically a photo (or more) per day, every day, for a year. My friends and I have been posting them on photoblog.
