Okay...so I started to explore this GIMP thing you guys have mentioned here. I first downloaded it from the GIMP site and it looked like it was fine. I tried to follow the tutorial on a photo where I wanted to change the background into a solid color, but the menu options are not exactly what the tutorial says. For example, when the tutorial says "Tools-Transform-Crop & Resize", the software would only display Crop (not Crop & Resize). I was getting very frustrated with it and my daughter who has probably introduced me to more photo editing software on the internet I have never heard of actually gave up on it. Thinking I downloaded the wrong version, I uninstalled it, went to one of the threads where ShepsMom provided the link, and redownloaded the 2.4.6 version (supposedly the stable one) but the download process was a little different this time. In any event, the download finished, but my problems remain. Truly, I don't find it very intuitive and the fact that I have to download the help add-in separately is aggravating.
Is there something I'm not doing right here? I'm about ready to uninstall it again if I can't make it work!

I put GIMP on my computer...so far its does nothing! Everytime I try anything with it...Well same problems that you are having. Thought it was me as I dont Compute!
I d/l'd it once. That was enough. I didn't like it. Didn't have any problem with it, just didn't like it! Didn't seem to have enough juice for me...but I'm always game to try something out, just to check it out....
Can't help you with GIMP at the moment. The workstation that got fried was the only pc that I could use it on. These other relics don't have hard drive space enough to install it. GIMP is programed and maintained for free by independent volunteer programmers. There is an advantage sometimes with "free enterprise" software. Would like to help but I'm out of this loop for now anyway. I'm anxiously awaiting CS4. And then again it may not be worth the upgrade.

You go girl! I'm sorry you're not up to snuff. I had to deal with recent surgery as well and 33 days of radiation. Sapped all my juices out, but it does come back, I promise!
Now I refuse to think me and my DD are stupid with software...but I'm ready to throw the towel on this one and deal with the freebies I have for right now. I'm saving my $$$ for converter lenses and don't want to spring more for S/W, but any help you could provide would convert me to this.
GIMP remindes me of the old Paint Shop! I think Shepsmom told me about it cause of Katies green eyed pic. Will the only thing GIMP want me to do to correct it was Paint her eyes. Which takes a good eye & hand control on the mouse! Anyway thats what the old Paint Shop use to do.
Shepsmom Why recomend something you know nothing about!?!
