Are you referring to those Bogen tripods? I believe the more expensive ones have the ability to hold a focusing rail for the heavy macro enthusiasts. The rail allows you to move the camera backwards and forwards to get the best focus when using a macro lens.

Bogen is just one of the several manufacturers who make high end products. I would definitely want a focusing rail if macro was by main interest. Very high definition photography as in collector items like stamps and coins it would be invaluable I would think.
There are also really nice tripods made out of wood that are great for using in streams with a current. The wood dampens vibration that leads to blurred images when using long shutter speeds. Metal sends the vibration to the camera...The study of tripods is a project in itself for advanced use. I use a Bogen and have a 3 handle type head and a ball head. I use both for different types of shooting. Neither are a favorite yet. Time to go and get some shooting in. Out looking for textures....
I have been sitting here in anticipation since last week Thursday awaiting for Monday to arrive (I hope) when my Canon comes to my door step, so I know how you feel. I am seriously considering taking up nail-biting because the days aren't going by fast enough. Passing on the advice someone gave me.... hang in there.
Congrats to everyone with newborn cameras - Sheps, Fedup and warptman! It isn't a bad idea we go on some shoot fest! Anyone want to host this?
