The 1d is too bulky, I'm getting the 5d mkiii. That's just right.
I currently have the t4i and it's great. So far, I've liked canon products better than nikon BUT, it's nothing against nikon, it's just canon's setup suits me a little better. You can't go wrong with either.

Hell, you could probably get away with a point and shoot.

the fuji x100s is one of the most amazing little cameras ever. google it.

it isn't cheap but for shooting some of the best jpegs i ever saw out of camera it is second to none. it has features i wish my nikon d800 had.

the camera, spare batteries and a case will set you back 1500.00 clams though but considering its closest equal is a 7k leica it is a bargain..

I have the Canon Rebel T3i and so far happy with it. It usually runs about $450 to $500.

Or was there some other criteria you wanted to share with us?

Wow! That is an amazing camera! Thanks!

You're welcome. I recommend getting two of them so you have a backup in case one breaks.

While most reviewers have expressed infatuation with the latest iteration of Fuji's retro-ish X100S , the fact is even "gatherings" often are best captured with a lens that is more flexible than the non-zoom 35mm equivlent the X100S is soley equiped with and I would have some concerns that once the camera "auto powers down" it takes relatively long time to "wake-up"... it starts in .7 seconds , what long start up are you seeing?.

as far as the 28mm range ,the clarity and noise is so low i can crop to the same size as my 200mm.

A steal at $6500

That may be a bit much for what they're looking for, but definitely ideal for someone who makes a living off of their photography.
