The 1d is too bulky, I'm getting the 5d mkiii. That's just right.
I currently have the t4i and it's great. So far, I've liked canon products better than nikon BUT, it's nothing against nikon, it's just canon's setup suits me a little better. You can't go wrong with either.
Hell, you could probably get away with a point and shoot.
While most reviewers have expressed infatuation with the latest iteration of Fuji's retro-ish X100S , the fact is even "gatherings" often are best captured with a lens that is more flexible than the non-zoom 35mm equivlent the X100S is soley equiped with and I would have some concerns that once the camera "auto powers down" it takes relatively long time to "wake-up"...
