In the East, Ritz Camera (a chain) is found in a lot of malls so I thought some here might frequent these stores and want to know this. Not sure if this chain is out west or in the middle of the country.

What a shame I knew a manager of one of them and I often got some goodies. It's scary what stores are closing down.

The one nearest me was pretty much of a rip off and I shop online anyway. I am sorry that folks will loose jobs in these hard times tho.

I'm sorry to hear this is happening to them too, but I rarely go there anymore. Their prices aren't competitive enough IMO.

They were often ok on camera prices but nearly everything else was overpriced and they almost never had what I was looking for. I wonder if they would have done better if they hadn't focused so heavily on the tourist market.

Yeah their prices on cameras weren't too bad, but anything else I looked at was cheaper online, even with shipping. There is one in my town and I do go there, but often times they are too pricey.

It's a great place to go if you want to handle the cameras and try them out first, and the freestanding Wolf/Ritz stores seemed to have more knowledgeable employees than the mall ones if you had questions. But pricing typically stinks.

David Ritz will get on his TV commercials and do the, "I will not be undersold" claims, but if you do print-outs of prices from B&H, KEH, or other camera stores and take them in to a Ritz, here is what you hear....

"We can't match B&H because they sell gray market items"

"We can't match KEH because they don't have a showroom"

"We can't match buydig or Amazon because they are not *real* stores"

"Oh, sure, we can match WAL-MART or BEST BUY if you want!".

Ok, so David Ritz won't be undersold, yet, 9 out of 10 places you go in for them to match will get you a "we can't do that" from their employees. Sorry - I don't play that. It's a shame that there will be a lot of employees there who will lose their jobs because of the HQ's false advertising.

That being said, remember, it's a Chapter 11 reorganizing they're doing. I don't think they're shutting everything down - just the less productive stores.
