Great post, MinuteMan! What city is that alley in?
Seeing your sidewalk art reminded me I had this one I took in Fort Wayne, IN at an arts festival in 2007:
I got this one the same day, however not as a part of the arts festival:

In a NYC car park:
On a van in Soho, NYC:
A mural in Philly that contains some color butterflies:
Outside the derilect Mayfair Theatre in Baltimore:
Terrible that building is in such sad shape--it hosted some legends in its day.

Quite extensive! I got to drive through the Mission when I was in SF. Unfortunately I didn't stop ( ), but it does have some of the best street art I've ever seen. I'm going back in May, so maybe I'll take some time and actually visit the neighborhood instead of just driving through.
I'm with you on the way street art can contribute to the overall feel of a city. Kinda shakes things up a bit, and a street artist has some great potential to do really nice work and spread a message.
