Default Cobh, Ireland

Cobh (pronounced "cove") is a sheltered seaport town on the south coast of County Cork, Ireland. Statue on the waterfront of Annie Moore and her brothers. Annie Moore was the first person to be admitted to the United States of America through the new immigration centre at Ellis Island, New York on 1 January, 1892.

You can see another image of this statue on Wikipedia. (The pix in my post one is mine, the Wikipedia is not! Yikes, just wanted to make that clear! )

(teeheehee... I have another shot of my nephew making out with her... such a goof ball! )

Default Oberammergau Church in Germany

This is actually someone's tombstone - er, ummm, "tomb statue" in the graveyard at the Oberammergau Church in Germany. It was the most incredible statue I've ever seen over someone's grave. Wish I knew the artist so I could commission them to do one for mine (hopefully, later rather than sooner!) YIKES!

Melbourne's Royal Arcade time keepers, Gog and Magog.

"These two 7-feet giants have been striking the time on Gaunt's clock since 1842. They were carved from clear pine and modelled on the figures erected in Guildhall, London, in 1708 to symbolise the conflict between the ancient Britons and the Trojan invaders."

"Mythology tells of the giants Gog and Magog (also known as Corineus and Gogmagog) having been captured in battle by the Trojans and made to serve as porters at the gateway of an ancient palace on a site later occupied by the Guildhall. It is traditional for Gog to stand to the north and Magog to the south."
