That's pretty amazing alright. Besides 17 GP, it also took a very high resolution lens!

Great find!

If you have a wide-screen monitor like 25" or bigger, you can really get a sense of the scale of the photo. Here is a direct link to the photo.

For reference, the image is actually made up of 2,046 images shot with a Nikon D2x using a 300mm f/4 lens and a 1.7 TC. It was apparently stitched using Autopano Pro. RAW conversion of the individual photos was handled through Nikon Capture NX2.

I knew there would be a catch and I immediately suspected it was some kind of panorama because when it zooms out completely, you can see the image is not the ratio it would be straight out of the camera.

And now Sony has 2 DSLRs at 24.6mp.. where will the count on mega-pixels end? 10 Terabyte P&S
