After stuffing ourselves with turkey we need to get out and take some pictures... try something new with the digital... just wing it before taking that nap....

In a previous life [before digital] I used to do an exercise at least once a year to keep myself alert and in tune.....
Using one camera, one lens and one roll of film [film is the long ribbon of plastic stuff that we used to put pictures on] I would go out in my own back yard [or some similarily limiting place and produce 35 well composed GOOD pictures.....FORCE yourself.....and only ONE shot of each one.....stop making 25 shots where one will do.....
It used to work wonders for me....

I went through this this past summer. I was coming down off an incredible photographic high in the NorCal Redwoods with Rhododendrons in bloom in May. And the conditions were perfect with some fog and sun mixed together. Then these God rays broke through the trees! It was like I reached a pinnacle in my photography and afterwards I felt like 'Wow, where do I go from here?' Then with summer fog and work getting busier than ever I just took a break from photography.
The thing that got me going again was the pursuit of Fall colors. Even though I was still really busy at work I carved out a few days and broke away for some camping and a Fall meetup with a photo group I participate with. I enjoyed finding many trees at various elevations which got me back in the game. Taking my 8 y/o son with me also made it fun.

I am also in a photography slump. I am currently unemployed so I have all the time in the world to shoot but film developing is so costly. I think once I get my new digital camera I will perk up again.
I just got Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, so I can start playing with that.

Yep, know the feeling. I knew it was bad last week when it was a beautiful sunny morning with a light frost covering everything and I grabbed my camera bad and tripod and tossed them in the car. Drove about 2 miles, thought "You know, there is really nothing or no place I want to shoot today" turned around and went back home to do a bit of work on the computer. NEVER happened before.
I have dug out all my old film cameras and talked myself into running a test on them all in order to thin out the inventory. Best 1 or 2 gets to stay around as a back-up/s in case the Digital dies. I think the Minolta 8000i and Maxxum 7000 are going to remain, but this has really perked up my interest in finding different conditions, subjects, and lighting to really have a fair, objective "shoot-out" in order to base my picks. Started today going out with the digital taking "scouting" shots of different areas to run through and find a dozen or so to take the collection out and set up the tripod so each shot is taken from the same exact location at the same angle with the same lenses. Kind of a different twist on making yourself go out and shoot different things to get out of your comfort zone and try different things and settings. Who knows you just may find a NEW section of photography to absorb all that extra free time we all have .
