Is that a 50D? Your camera/tripod setup looks really similar to mine. Might be just me, but they seem a inty bit too bright. Flash(?) appparent on 2nd pic. You're on your're way, I'll be doing that trial and error building my own soon. Have fun!

It's a 40D....and you are right, I should tone down the brightness. Here is another......

Nice even background but your lighting might be better on some, especially the last one, if you were lighting from above, rather than straight on from the camera. If your flash supports using it off camera, you should do so.

I didn't think of lighting from above. I can make a cutout in the top of the box and put another 500 watt worklight there.

Here is one more.....

I have seen several set ups for light boxes but have never thought of all the things you could do with one. Im really glad you posted this, I think I will visit Home Depot this weekend and make one ! Did you just use foam board that was white ? A few I have seen were wood and painted white, I think I like the foam board idea for portability. Very cool stuff, got my creative juices cooking when I was looking at your shots. Thanks again for this.

I went to Michael's and bought the foam board. Plan out the dimensions of your box so you can fit the stuff in it that you want! I would do at least a 15x15x15 footprint.

The foam board is tough to cut, use a sharp utility knife. Once I cut out the panels, I put them together with long thick sewing pins. I used a lot of them. I cut out the sides of the box and put a sheet of thin pure white paper on to diffuse the light. Then I use 500 watt worklights to illuminate the box. If you can get it bright enough you don't even need the flash.

Here is one more.....
