I've had enough with contacts and glasses. I'm considering getting Lasik eye surgery done. Anyone have any experience with it? Or can you recommend a good doctor for it?

I advise Laurel Eye Clinic up in Brookville, PA. They are a little more expensive, but hey...we're talking about your eyes for Christ's sake. That's where I got my Lasik done and I have no complaints.

Thanks, I'll check them out. You're right...I'm not looking for the best deal, I'm looking for the best places we have to get the procedure done. It's worth the money since I won't have to buy contacts and glasses all the time.

The cheapy places in mini-malls and advertised in newspapers for $500 an eye are usually staffed by people fresh out of med school without much experience. Laurel Eye Clinic was $1600 per eye as I remember and all of the doctors had thousands of operations under their belts and had even written papers on the procedure. My first doctor there was very cautious and as such I had one eye that was not corrected enough. I had to go back for a second "zap" and of course it did not cost me anything further. The fee also includes checkups that you will have to undergo in the year afterwards.

I had the night "halo" thing for a couple of weeks. But, now my night vision is impeccable and I am hovering at about 20/20 and this is after eight years. But, be sure to ask about their failure rate. Be an informed consumer. There are a few people who undergo Lasik who end up with permanent problems (habitual dry eye, bad eyesight and even blindness).

I can't recommend them enough though. My experience was great.

I was expecting to pay at least $2000 an eye, so $1600 doesn't seem that bad. So you got the procedure 8 years ago? I would assume it's even more perfected now. I definitely just want to get an appointment to make sure I'm a good candidate for the procedure. I heard stories of patients being told that it wouldn't benefit them and then they go to every place they can until they find a doctor that says they'll do it. They get the procedure done and then have weird problems like seeing stars and floaties and stuff like that. If they tell me no, then I'll just deal with contacts/glasses, I guess.
