Since the OP does toss in the rest of the world, I'd like to tout George Street in St. John's, Newfoundland.

I was never wild about Carson, but to be fair, when I lived in PIT, the Flats were just coming around, and the Slopes were still a little skeevy. Now that it's upscaled a bit, I'm sure there's more to be said for it late on a weekend night.

Never been to Austin, but pics of 6th do look fun, although it does look like a bro-pocalypse.

The poorest, drunkest province in Confederation - full of the descendants of Irish fishermen. I imagine a pub crawl there would be epic!

I feel like over the past couple years there have certainly been a lot more empty storefronts on Carson (such as Levels). I do find it very surprising that some storefronts have been empty for years despite being in such a large and heavily travelled neighborhood.

I know of two things that are hurting businesses are:
1. Out of touch landlords that don't seem to understand their market has changed & still believe they can raise rents annually
2. No parking available for employees that need to drive as a result of the ppa's asinine parking rules for the neighborhood

There does however seem (bizarrely) to be a new hair cutting establishment opening up every week

I saw signs just being put up for a Columbian restuarant opening up which I'm excited about & chipotle is oddly going to share space with the Post Office (& right next to another Mexican place that is opening soon with the oh so authentic Mexicana name of 'Tres Rios').

In Manhattan there really isn't one street with this many bars. Usually there are bars on corners of most popular streets. The East Village is probably a smaller area than South Side and has like 450 plus bars. Not sure how many are in South Side.

Around 100 in a 10-15 block stretch with a few dead sections between Station Square and E. Carson and E. Carson and the Southside Works. If I had to guess by area I'd say The East Village is about twice the size of the South Side Flats.

yeah I pulled up a map of South Side on Google and it gave me Easton, PA's South Side and for whatever reason I didn't realize. So yeah, the East Village is bigger for sure.

But I wonder if there was any reason for one street to have so many bars? Like did it have something to do with the steel mills or is it a more recent development.
