Sushi in a mom and pop place

You'll probably get some disagreement, but a few places to try:

Umi
Chaya
Penn Ave Fish Co

These aren't from me; I'm only a very occasional sushi eater and have trended towards even less over the years.

A good discussion, if I may: Sushi in Pittsburgh - Pennsylvania - Chowhound

From the south hills perspective I highly recommend both Little Tokyo and Osaka.

Does anyone else find their nori so thick you can't chew it? I end up swallowing it whole.

But otherwise, I love the place.

These three. Add the new one "Plum" near Whole Foods to the list and that about does it for Pittsburgh. Steer clear of Nakama. It sucks.

$ - Chaya (more authentic) & Penn Ave Fish (more new school - fish market)
$$ - Plum
$$$ - Umi

Over here in Robinson, it's Fuji Sushi. Man it's good. Small Mom and Pop place in a plaza on Steubenville Pike. The chef is very personable and funny as heck. The sushi is fantastic. I love veggie sushi and this is the best I've had. My husband eats the exotic stuff and loves it. I can have a meal there and eat till I'm stuffed and be craving the stuff the next day again!

I want to bring this thread back and see if there are any other perspectives/opinions on the best sushi places in Pittsburgh? I haven't tried most of the places mentioned yet. Thanks everyone

The only sushi I've tried here thus far has been from GetGo. Not bad, but not great, obviously.

I deliver for Burma-Tokyo along Atwood Street in Oakland, and their sushi always looks very appetizing.

You're still delivering for them? I thought you started a new job.
