Thanks!

looks like he's in butler, which is 45 minutes from me.. I left a message though.

I have a number of trees damaged last winter that either need to be removed or pruned.. I need someone that knows what they are doing to advise..

Try Lisowski's out of Gibsonia, which is not too far from Shaler. They've done good work for me in O'Hara before. http://www.manta.com/c/mmnrcxb/lisow...vice-landscape

Dave Miller Tree Service out of Etna 412-782-2639. He was fast and reasonable and did a nice job.

Also, Arborel off of 910. They did a big job for us a few years ago involving a crane.

There is also a guy in Aspinwall but he never returned my call. Kennan Brothers or something like that.

We used a company when we lived there to take care of seveal trees....Bartlett Tree Experts out of Imperial/McDonald 724-695-1660. I am sure they travel. Also have an Irwin location. They were very knowledgable and walked around our yard with us and explained which plants/trees were in our landscaping and how to take care of them. Our home came with lots of specialty/expensive horticulture as my hubby like to call it. They even helped us save our Bradford Pear from splitting.

If you're just having trees cut down, it's probably not a big deal. If you need care/pruning for trees you want to keep, you probably want to make sure they know what they're doing instead of just hacking at it:

Trees Are Good - Tree Care Information

I know there are some independent companies that may have a certified arborist, but it was difficult to find one that seemed like it was in the right location or wasn't just a tree cutting outfit. Bartlett, just mentioned, is a large national outfit with a long history that is good. I had a guy out from Davey last year, which is the other large national outfit. A tree in the yard was obviously in shock from some drainage work I had done. Nice guy, we looked at several trees in the yard. The one he said not much to do. It gets less water now so maybe watering, maybe fertilize, 50/50 chance of living. I asked him about the ash tree and ash borer, whether there was something to prevent, and he seemed a bit fatalistic about it, suggesting we might not have ash trees sometime in the future. No charge for the estimate visit, though, and some free advice. The shocked tree is still alive now and is perhaps doing better than last year this time, so I have hope.

Davey and Bartlett have done lots of research into tree care. I suspect to a certain degree that will show in their prices but I hoped it also showed in their service and was willing to pay more for it had they suggested specific treatments, etc. to save that tree. The Davey office was in Gibsonia, I believe, so should be fine for Shaler. http://www.davey.com/

So, anyone have recommendations for a tree service south of the city? By some miracle of nature the tree didn't hit anything, but I need it gone.
