Yes, that is true. It is all in what you are in the mood for. If you actually want to have a conversation and be able to read your menu, I'd pick La Fiesta. I like Mad Mex but the one in Oakland was usually too crowded for me. I like Mad Mex if I'm just going to sit at the bar. But I do like their food as well.

Another favorite restaurant of mine in Oakland is Baba D's. If you like Mediterranean food it is excellent. There used to be another great middle eastern restaurant on Semple long ago (Sinbad's?). I think it is a deli now.

For wings, you can't beat Wing Pitt, though it is take out only.

All of this talk about food made me take my husband out to Mad Mex for lunch this afternoon.

Hopes, Oh, I'm jealous!!! I LOVE Mexican food, but dh doesn't care for it. So, that pretty much means no Mex for me, until my sister comes up to visit. There's a Mexican Restaurant that I've heard is very good just outside of Zelienople, by the airport. I'll have to get my sister up here and go there!

blessings, Shen

5 Star? I thought there were something like four 5 star restaurants in all of PA, and 3 of them are in Philly. LeMont, Grand Concourse, Tin Angel, The Carlton, LePommier...I'm pretty sure neither Zagat nor Mobil gave any of those 5 stars. I could be wrong, and am not trying to be argumentative, just a thought.

Just a matter of opinion...I think Qdoba has better food. The atmosphere at Mad Mex is better- Qdoba is a little more fast-foody, but the food is great.

I knew those links were there for a reason. I gotcha...I think the tone of my posts makes me sound like a wise ass sometimes, but what I was really getting at was "Are there more 5 star restaurants in Pgh than I knew about?" As in..."I've got some eating to do!".

I would also have to say Primanti Brothers. I ate at one Downtown a few blocks from City Hall (not the one at Market Square but a few blocks away). Yes, the attitude is a bit "New York", but that's what makes it so fun! I had two visually impaired friends with me and they received good customer service. The sandwiches are teriffic!

I second Sharp Edge and Tessaro's, both of which are casual but good. If your family likes Middle Eastern food try Ali Babba on Craig St. in Oakland. Union Grill on the same street is also good.

Never did care for the food at Sharp Edge. No debating it's one of the best beer joints in the country though. For a better Belgian cuisine experience, I highly recommend Point Brugge in Point Breeze.

Oh, and I take umbrage with Sharp's insistence that its flagship location is in Friendship. It is not; it is in East Liberty. I wish they'd set an example by claiming and embracing their own neighborhood and saying "there are some good things happening in S'liberty, and we're one of 'em."
