So since this blog is going pretty good, has anyone else checked out any other schools to see if it is a good place to train. Ive been hearing alot about a place on RT.88 in Bethel Park ( the instructors name is gracie) I heard they are pretty good too?!?!?!? Any thoughts or comments. I'll post about PKA when I check them out tomarrow and see what it is like and if they try a contract as well.

Keep posting everyone!!!!!

you're referring to Steel City Martial Arts, they are a Gracie Affiliate, and have one or two Black Belts that will instruct there, as well as numerous upper level belts. But there is no "Gracie" that instructs there...

i haven't trained there, but i've heard good things...keep in mind, you will be in a contract, and you will be paying upwards of $120-150/month to train there....expensive? yes, but it's also up to you to determine the value.

What are some of the current rates to train at some of these schools? I think anything over $100 is just insane, but is that what the going rate is?

i can only speak of BJJ, but typically, if you have at least a Brown Belt Instructor, be prepared for a minimum of $100/month and automatic payments deducted from your checking acct/credit card.

Hey guys just wanted to give a update. PKA KArate (kenpo) was really interesting. Its a small place with a few instructors. The instructor I met was very down to earth. Wasn't interested in signing a quick contract or trying to over impress me. He was very informative and also very well trained in several different martial arts. Its seems like a good place so far. The owner will be contacting me on pricing and I will post about that later. So far so good. Kenpo is a interesting form too so I will post more once I have heard all the details.

Steel City Martial Arts is putting on the 2010 Western PA Grappling Championships this weekend, October 9th at Keystone Oaks High School.

if you want to see what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is all about, up close and personal, this would be a great opportunity!

Here's the link if you're interested.

This was a great Tournament, easily over 100 competitors from under 10 yrs old to 40+ yrs old!

I competed in this, and was fortunate enough to bring home a gold medal!

Awesome accomplishment!!!

What about the local YMCA? Do they still do karate? Local colleges and universities?

And, I would like to attend a tournament just to watch. What is coming up, if anything?

Well everyone I haven't seen any posts on this issue anymore so I may start a new blog about it or if anyone else has any other news on a good place to train or something that someone has tried out in the area. I searched really hard and went to alot of places and honestly....................it was exhausting. There are so many different styles and places out there and I can't seem to say that one certin place is going to be better than the other. So at a last resort I would like to hear from everyone and see what everyone thinks or has tried. Thanks Everyone
