From NC to PA (Pittsburgh, New Kensington: find a job, where to buy, schools)

Does anyone have information about the New Kensington area? I'm a machinist hoping to find work there. My wife & I visited twice this year but we still don't have a "feel" about employment for me in the area.

New Kensington is a dead area. If you can find a job in the surrounding Pittsburgh area you're best to live in Lower Burrell instead of New Kensington.

Better Schools, but higher taxes. I grew up in Lower Burrell, live in Pittsburgh, but am moving to West Virginia. I'd move to Lower Burrell in a heartbeat.

New Ken is indeed a deader area, but it is an old industrial town, so it may be possible for you to find a machinist position in some of the left over smaller machine shops around there.. I'm not in that field so I wouldn't know.

There is definately machinist work in the Pittsburgh area available.... but I can't tell you about New Ken per se.

I would look for a job first and then worry about where to buy a house... and pick someplace close to where you will be working. There is no shortage of housing in Pittsburgh area... you'll be able to find a home.
