Negativity is so pleasant...NOT.

In my short lifetime I can't believe how many people have the same, yet uplifting story. It tends to go as follows:

"I hated Pittsburgh! I left and never wanted to go back...then I moved back in "x" amount of months/years. I LOVE THIS CITY!"

Encountered yet another rendition of this story just this weekend. Not to mention my best friend lasted three months elsewhere and came running back almost in tears...

Its the same story with all these Insular Pittsburghers....They think everywhere else does it better than Pittsburgh because they've never lived anywhere else...then when they leave they're rudely supprised that Pittsburgh wasn't that bad after all....

I mean we see this story played out time and time again....there are no shortages of stories for the Post Gazette and Pop City to produce on the Boomerang effect, there's one everyweek in Pop city.

That's why I sit back in Laugh at the pessimist on here who try to paint Pittsburgh as the worst place in the world....like the "Bubble" thread...They really thought Pittsburgh was the only place where people lived in Bubbles it's hilarious.

But its also sad....Pittsburgh leaders are always shouting about keeping our young within Pittsburgh....I say no "Our" young need to leave even if its only for college, Pittsburgh is insular enough and you see what it breeds self-haters....Pittsburgh needs to become more Transient and Mobile...While "Our" Young leaves, we should also be taking in "other" locations Young. But I dont want Pittsburgh to be Ultra Transient like NYC or Chicago where there's no sense of community or place.

Interesting map of US counties concerning migration, both inbound and outbound.

The same thing happens in Ne Ohio too. I know lots of people that realize that the grass isn't always greener.
