Im'a put it this way. I've lived in McKeesport for 19 years & to be honest it's not a place to live. Dont get me wrong you do have sum very nice people that try to keep the neighborhood safe & clean. But on the other hand you have to worry about some one breaking into your home, or your are your children safe playing outside alone, people bumming money off of you and at that there's always shots fired around here. Another thing I walk home late at night from the bus stop which is ways away from my house, and believe me im always worried about something happening. Not only that the houses around here are so run'd down that its depressing. I travel to pittsburgh alot and believe me ( mckeesport & pittsburgh) are completly different...... just thought i'd add my thought

Get your PA LCTF and stop worrying. All you have to do is call the Sheriff in Allegheny County and find out what the process. Avoid trouble and be safe!

Default The Grand City Of McKeesport as i fondly remember her!

Yes The Daily News is still going although it is no longer owned by thr Mansfield family. The Pittsburgh Tribune bought it from a friend of mine who owns several papers in smaller Pa. towns including Huntingdon where i now reside. It saddens me to hear and have witnessed the decline of hte once hub of the Mon Valley. McKeesport was a majestic proud city and had a booming downtown that boasted over 400 large grand department stores to smaller mom and pop type operationd. The ctiy sidewalks werer packed with shoppers from the entire Mon Valley and the busses came from far away to bring the people into the city. We had several theatres at one time as well. Even the shopping malls couldn tkill the downtown but what did was the great collapse of the mighty steel mills.Mckeesport is now 'scary" from the majestic Queen City as i recall growing up there. I understand it will take years for the kind of re-birth to happen there as it has in Homestead but my heart tells me that if enough of the good people that made McKeesport the thriiving area it once was with good government and a strong police force and leadership from the churches and good citizens fight the dirty image it will come back slowly over a period of time. The downtown may never be the mecca for shoppers that it can be proud of but the city can clean up and continue to move forward with the help of the community pride minded citizens and become a livable proud community again. God Bless the good citizens of McKeesport. I will pray for you as always.
