West Liberty, as in West Liberty Avenue that runs through the Liberty Tubes and then off through Beechwood, Dormont, and Mt Lebanon

It's Beechview. West Liberty Avenue is a little rundown, but it and the areas around it certainly not unsafe. I wouldn't be living there if they were.

Default wilkinsburg

Having left Wilkinsburg in 1971, and referring to Wilkinsburg as "a good place to nuke", to any one asking where I was from, Pittsburgh has much to offer. The ethnic neighborhoods not seen anywhere except in Chicago. Good cultural activities, good book stores and a hell of alot friendlier than Chicago(where you are encouraged to vote early and often).

I wonder if you could safely walk from Midland street down Penn Ave to where Scotties Dinner was or is? I couldn't do it safely late at night in 1970. How bout now? Bars on windows, both resedential and business, doesn't make a person feel welcome.

If you can't walk out of your house without fear at anytime of day or night perhaps your living too deep in the forest to see the trees. You adapt and you really don't know better.

I gess I've been spoiled by small town america, the same small towns our esteemed president elect decided to bash?!

Even if the neighborhood is safe, I still hate high traffic areas. The "Ho" house would drive me nuts!
There are nice parts of Wilkensburg also, don't let me scare you away. IMO just after Admore BlVD. ( I think that's what it called ) there are nice homes and it's even closer to the parkway. As for Mckeesport that place has really change alot since I left there. Which part do you plan on moving to? I like the Upper parts of Mckeesport Towards the High School. I don't think the school district is all that bad either but I could be wrong. LOL, I used to live in Braddocck too and that place is the pitts. They are building new houses everywhere. It still looks like a dusty warehouse lol. Good luck. Keep me posted. My mom was a jipsey so we lived just about everywhere.

Scotty's was open 24 hours. The structure is still there. I believe it's now Peppi's Sandwich shop.

Wilkinsburg was very safe in 1970. You could walk around anywhere, anytime day or night. The gates across storefronts and bars on windows didn't start until 1977 or later.

Default Thanks Peter Rabbit for the Memories

I used to work at Scotties, midnight shift sometimes. Loved the Photos!

You are correct, a large portion of Wilkinsburg was safe anytime back in 71. I misspoke. The bars in windows came later.
My sister passed the house where we grew up in on Midland street, right were Woodlawn avenue t"s into Midland Street. A tree was growing up thru the roof of the garage.!? ...... NICE TOUCH
