Alot of people dont mention this, but I think you need to be alert in Squirrel Hill at night Monday through Saturday. It's usually packed, and there always seems to be a bunch of ghetto rats waiting for the bus on the north east corner of Forbes and Murray near that parking garage.

What do you mean by "revamped"? I am interested in this, I live on the border of Highland Park/East Lib. and am curious. I just moved here a few months ago and I like it so far, I was just wondering how it was going to be revamped, like what do you mean?
Thanks, and sorry if I appear to be dumb, it might be the blond hair coming out of my head....

Great! So where am I supposed to live?? ISn't this like the WHOLE city!?!? We need some folks to pick the true bad places out and the ones that maybe just aren't pretty so us folks that have no clue where to move to (cause I have never been to PGH in my life) can get better insight. How about a list of decent, affordable areas? Squirrel Hill and Shadyside are a bit pricey. Iknow that there has to be somewhere decent thats much cheaper.

a lot of those are towns outside of Pittsburgh. One thing you got to understand about Pittsburgh that isn't the same as Florida is: the metro of Pittsburgh is made up of thousands and I mean thousands(well maybe hundreds) of neighborhoods, towns, villages, etc. The city has about 90 neighborhoods that all have a individual town feeling. Then outside the city is small towns everywhere. Most he listed have some small sections that are bad. Others like the Strip District are busy sections that are very city and urban like.
Don't let this list describe anything. I lived in Philly and Denver. Pittsburgh is safe. It is like any city, it has its bad areas. Some people need to get out for a while and see what other towns are like to realize how nice the Burgh really is.

Pittsburgh has eighty eight neighborhoods in City limits. Want to be "safe" in all of them? Stay in your basement with all the doors and windows shut.
Honestly, what some folks think.
I live in an area most folks think of as "bad", and walk all over the neighborhood during daylight, and up and down my street after dark, and feel quite safe.
The North Side has between 14 and 18 different neighborhoods, all with varying degrees of beauty, charm and value. Even the much touted Squirrel Hill has bad areas. Neighborhoods change from block to block and street to street.
Some else mentioned common sense, yes! Use it!
