I certainly try to encourage people to patronize their local businesses, and it is undoubtedly the case that Pittburgh's most successful residential neighborhoods tend to have good local businesses.
That said, I think we need to be a little realistic about where Pittsburgh stands at this point. The population is way off from its peak, and will probably not be returning to those peak numbers anytime soon. In fact, the population might still decline a bit before completely stabilizing. What that means is that it may not be realistic for all of Pittsburgh's neighborhoods to recover to the same degree, and certainly not at the same pace.
Again, that doesn't mean people should not be doing whatever they can to help develop their own neighborhoods, including patronizing local businesses. But I'm really not sure if there is ever going to be enough business to go around to all the existing neighborhoods.

Alison Park is a nice area, but may be a bit pricy (although not like Fox Chapel). Definitely avoid Wilkensburg.

He's gone, don't worry. LOL. If you missed the memo, 412 was a troll just trying to cause a fuss on the forum.
