OH NO, I CANNOT BELIEVE I FORGOT THE BEST THING OF ALL....DRIVE IN MOVIES!

Nothing is better than taking the kids to the drive in!!! Everyone has a ball and when there is a kids movie they "just have to see" and you go and it stinks, you don't feel so bad because it is so cheap!!! not only that kids UNDER 6 YEARS OLD ARE FREE!!! We take the mini van, park backwards, put the kids in the back with the back door open and they have a great seat with surround sound as there are speakers on the sides and on the back door and the sound comes out of the radio (they tell you what station to tune into when you come in). movies are there the same day they open in the regular theaters and you can bring your own food, snacks and drinks if you want!

A solid bar crawl in the South Side ... always starting at Fatheads and always ending at Bar 11.

Picking up some veggies and ice cream at Trax Farms. (Does this count since it's not in the city?)

Kennywood! And never paying full price to go there.

Saturday market in the Strip.

Hitting La Casa Narcisi Winery and Penn Brewery for a taste of some local adult creations.

An evening at the City Theatre.

Day trips to Ohiopyle. (Again, not in the city, but nonetheless ...)

They've re-opened the Twin Hi-Way Drive-In! Twin Hi-Way Drive-In

Can't wait to go there when I get home (hopefully next month)!

mini-golf and par three still exist on 228. The par 3 course is nothing fancy but it is cheap!

Yes, Mineral Beach is still open and the kids think it is awesome because it is zero-depth entry and you can bring your rafts and stuff. In the winter, on the hill next door, they do snow tubing. It's a blast.

Yes, I grew up as a South Hills suburbanite and am now doing everything in my power to get back there and raise my own family. I love the South Hills.

Stasia - do you live there now?

Just re-opened within the last month to boot, I've heard it styled after the original. Also The Dependable in Moon Township is still open, it has to be one of the oldest continually open drive-ins in the area.

#1- Strapping my bike on the back of the car and heading to Mt Washington! We take that curvy, desolate road down to Carson Street and then traverse the town

#2- Chatting with my cynical friend from Squirrel Hill

#3- Taking people who have never been to Pittsburgh to Mt Washington and then hearing them say "I never knew Pittsburgh was so nice!" And if they don't like it, I never talk to them again

#4- Finding a new neighborhood I've never seen before

#5- Playing in the PPG fountains downtown on a hot day

#6- Pretending to be "cultured" and going to the museums in Oakland or operas downtown

#7- Taking my grandma to Starbucks for the first time in Oakland. She still talks about how good that java chip frappuccino was!

#8- The zoo. I actually got to pet a kangaroo!!! It was thrilling

#9- Walking around Carson St. at 4:00am when I'm not drunk

#10- Going through the tunnel headed north on 279

#11- Taking my great-grandpa to see his childhood home on the northside. He had to leave the city when he was 12 because his asthma was so bad. That was in 1929. He's still alive and will curse Pittsburgh until the day he dies!

That's why I love Pittsburgh. I've never lived there, but hope to someday.

We went to the Newly opened Twin and it was great, very clean bathrooms and snack bar. It was slightly more expensive than the Kane and Dependable but was still so much less than the regular movies. Just totaled my extended minivan which had speakers in the rear and know our next visit to the drive-ins will not be the same, but maybe will bring along an extra boom box.
