Default Your Top 10 Things To Do in PGH?

Hi! I thought it would be fun to ask people to list their own Top 10 favorite things to do in Pittsburgh. Not a guide for tourists, but a sort of Pittsburgher's guide to Pittsburgh. Play along, if you'd like!

Thanks!

I agree with some of the above; the following have not been mentioned yet.

DeAngelis Donuts
Go to a Pirates' game
Visit Pitt and look at where I used to live, work and play
Ft. Pitt (when it is open)
Brady's Run County Park in Beaver County (Maple syrup festival in spring, beautiful trees in fall)
Drive through downtown Beaver Falls and be depressed
The museums in Oakland
Visit my brother

These are actually things my family and I do in the Pittsburgh area.

Go to Pirate game
Mt Washington
get a Gus and YaYa ice ball
Go to Zoo
station square
sit at the fountain at point park (looks like I have to wait another year to be able to do that again)
the excitement of having my son love the city even though we live 2 hours away (I grew up in the burgh, he didn't and he loves to visit as often as we can)

You really learn to enjoy the city more when you are no longer living with it all the time. I never realized that until just a few years ago.

Explore the Station Square shops and bars and restaurants.

Visit Kennywood Park.

Take an evening dinner cruise on the Riverboat.

Visit The Cathedral Of learning and Heinz Chapel on the Pitt Campus.

Check out the Cultural District in town.

Mt. Washington is a great place to go in the middle of the night when you just need to get away from it all and talk. This is a tradition that my girlfriend and I started when we were teenagers. To this day, I still hop in the car and take people to Mt. Washington when they're really stressed out. The last person I took was my son. It always works wonders. We've stayed up there until sunrise a few times.

My family loves to go biking into downtown Pittsburgh early Saturday mornings (via bike trails along the allegheny river). It's so peaceful down there. We have the city to ourselves. No other time of the week can you feel like you can safely ride into the city. We always have a blast.

It's been a long time, but I always enjoyed taking my son to feed the ducks at North Park. We still go to take walks or just swing on the swings. The paddle boats are fun too.

Winter wouldn't be complete without sled riding at Hartwood Acres (middle road side).

The fountain at Point Park when it's super hot with a slight breeze. I love to let the spray of water cool me off in the heat.

Boating and water skiing on the rivers.

Fly fishing in outlying counties.

Spending the winter weekends skiing at Seven Springs or Hidden Valley.

Horseback riding.

Flying kites at Hartwood Acres.

Concerts in the parks and festivals.

Mostly I just love being with my family.

Wow - these are all the reasons I am determined to move back to Pittsburgh (been in Columbus, OH for 13 years and it's just not home to me like the Burgh is)! To the list of things to do in Pittsburgh, I would add going to Oakland and just walking around the Pitt campus (my alma mater), and having lunch at the Star of India on Craig Street. A perfect afternoon in my opinion!

And I also loved the idea of going to Mt. Washington when you feel stressed. Seeing that view gives me such an overall peaceful, "all's right with the world" feeling. Sappy sounding, I know, but it's true!

Golfing in Schenly Park, especially the third hole where you have to shoot over the two lane road!!!! Nothing feels better than making that one!

Also in Schenly Park, Phipps Conservatory and the Vintage Grand Prix.

Fourth of July in Kennywood Park....no crowds and great view of fireworks!

Canoeing in Brady's Run Park.

The Zoo!!!! Especially the PPG Aquarium...the Sea Dragon's, the Jelly Fish...the Penguins!!! And the newest exhibit with the sea otters, polar bears, ect. Nothing like watching them swim under water through the tunnel.

Light Up Night, Any evening when the Pirates play, First Night. Watching the fireworks on any of these nights on a boat in the river!

Going to High School Football games...any high school...just watching the frenzy and the talent.

Penguin's games, especially from the Blue Line. Had a great company party there and met Mario...great night!

Going to Station Square at any time of the year, always something going on or a great place to have dinner by the riverfront with the best view of the city.

The carousel at the park in front of Pitt, especially if you can get the spinning cup, the kids and i had more fun in that thing than your supposed to on a carousel!!
