We will be moving this coming summer, and our current lease ends about three weeks before we'll be leaving town. Extending our lease is not an option with our landlord, who wants to get incoming students. So, I'm hunting for a reasonable deal on an extended stay hotel in the Pittsburgh area. Thus far the best location and price I've found is about $240+tax/week at the InTown Suites slightly north of the city. I know there are a few places out by the airport, but as we work in the city that seems more troublesome than a quick drive down I-279 every day. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

You know, i have been looking for the same thing, just in case. I do not want to just settle for any place, plus i would like to see them in person. I live in S Fla and i cannot keep taking flights out there just to check out rentals, so i have to either take one without seeing it, or choosing an extended stay place for a few weeks until i find a place i like for my family. I could not even find the one you did for the price you found, that is not bad. It is hard to find any places similar to the in town suites for any cheaper. I will let u know if i could find something because i am also looking.

Thanks! If I find anything better, I will certainly report on it here too so feel free to subscribe to the thread. This place takes reservations starting 180 days out, and for me that's next week. So I think I'm going to go ahead and make a reservation with them to protect availability when I'll need them...and just cancel it if we discover something preferable in the next few months.

Oh and I definitely recommend your course of action, because speaking from experience when we moved here several years ago, Pittsburgh is DEFINITELY a town where the best deals on a lot of rentals and homes are to be found "on the ground" so to speak. You can look up all you want online and even call various companies but you will always find amazing places (no matter what you're specifically looking for) here once you arrive that you never knew about (from word of mouth, sign on the street, visiting another property owned by the same person, etc).

I think your best bet is to advertise on the "housing wanted" section of Craigslist with the exact dates you're looking for. It's possible that someone is moving out before their lease ends, and you could find a place like that. You need to list what dates exactly you need, however.

I've considered that, but I think personally I'm more interested in dealing with a hotel. I have a ton of random housekeeping responsibilities to in two cities thousands of miles apart to wrap up during those three weeks and the last thing I want is to run into any drama or unexpected issues with a sublessor or lessor. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but a hotel just seems like a much simpler and less potentially troublesome option.
