Indiana Township is fairly rural for how close it is to the city. It's not as convenient to get downtown or some other places. But either one of those is perfectly fine if you find something in your budget. Fox Chapel is a top notch school district.

Will I still encounter the earned income tax out of Allegheny County?

Yes. Generally 1%. These earned income taxes are on a school district and municipality basis, not county.

I thought I should give my .02 on this...

I was born and raised in Sarver until I went to college in Ohio.

Freeport is an average school district, where if you want to succeed, you can.

(FYI, I did not attend Freeport but instead went to St Joseph High School, which is a private school in Natrona Heights)

Any questions on that area, let me know!

Oakmont has some negative issues. School taxes are very high for what you get. Riverview School has Verona in the district, so that isn't exactly a plus these days with all the new section 8 housing that has been built there. Oakmont is VERY hard to get in and out of. If you have to commute to the city it is really bad, unless you can leave very early in the morning. Once 3:30PM hits it is very hard to get around at all. They are talking about building a new bridge, but I don't think it is going to help much since it won't connect to Rt. 28. On the plus side of Oakmont, it is a great place to walk. Can't walk to a grocery store anymore, but it is very nice walking area. The park by the river is great. One of my favorite parks.
