this thread asks what you hate about the city, not what you love. There are plenty of things that I love about the place, but that wasn't the question.

It's not as bad in some other major-league cities where I have lived. In cities w/o major league teams, often college teams are the focus. Omaha is pretty nuts about the Huskers, for example, but, I have to say, not as zealous as Pittsburgh is about the Steelers. At least the college football season is basically just 3 months long.

ETA: I just saw on facebook where one of my friends had a Steeler's jersey made with her own name on it. I have never seen anyone do that before.

I don't think it's so much being shunned but you do wind up feeling left out if you have no interest in sports.People love it because of the food, the beer, the parties, the cheering is always all about having a heluva good time.
Just relax and have fun! You don't even have to be a fan to join the fun!

I have to agree though after the end of football season or hockey season I've had enough and had my fill of the sport until the start of the next season. Then you look forward to doing it all over again!

Wouldn't "Zaggin'" say something derogatory if you saw a PAT bus in your rear-view mirror?

1. Terrible, terrible public transportation.
2. Four Words: "Allegheny River Tunnel Project"
3. Lack of a variety of night life. You can only go to the south side so many times.
4. Ridiculous highway system
5. Not much of a music scene.
6. Over-excitement/novelty about the whole Pittsburgh accent thing.

Inept city government, I DO definitely hate that:

City's New Work Cars Sit Idle In Old Tow Pound - Allegheny County News Story - WTAE Pittsburgh (http://www.wtae.com/allegheny/26545732/detail.html - broken link)

In October they bought 20 cars for the Bureau of Building Inspection, and they've been sitting never used for 4 months because nobody at BBI has a key to get into the lot where they are sitting, which is controlled by the police. So 4 months and these two entities can't talk?

Personally, I'm all for the inspectors to drive their own cars and get their mileage paid for, but only if they have a GPS to track them. It would have to be cheaper in the long run. But, as always, the Democratic controlled Pgh finds a way to screw up.

Would be hard pressed to think of anything at the moment. Steelers are winning, Pens are winning, beautiful snow on the slopes. Paradise. Of course for some it would be horrible. I would tell those people that are always miserable to move, but I am old enough to know that no matter where they live, they will always be miserable. I am also old enough to know that some are happiest in their own misery. Therefore, I am sure some live for a thread like this. Not my cup of tea, but I figured someone might learn something from my intellect.

Enjoy all!
