That's in Polish Hill. It's a safe area.
The Hill District is above the cliff across Bigalow Boulevard, but since the huge cliff and highway with heavy traffic divide the two, there isn't really a problem in Polish Hill.
You can check out the crime statistics for Polish Hill here: Part One: Pittsburgh neighborhood crime statistics
Of course, you'll have to make your own decision based on your personal comfort level.

Hopes,
You have helped me so much through all this. Finally thursday is the big day when I make a final decision. I was a bit weary because this apartment is managed by Wylie holdings and someone here had posted that they take places in very crappy areas to renovate them. I was a bit concerned. I am completely disoriented where I am and where Im going but tomorrow I will explore some. Thanks for the feedback. More feedback welcomed )

I know the area well, Hopes is correct in saying that is part of the Hill District aka Polish Hill, on the outskirts of it we'll say...But the other end of bethoven near the bridge where you stated the apartment is.. That is actually considered part of Oakland not bloomfield....
That area is descent, you shouldn't have any problems...I would probably recommend going the other way on the bridge and getting a place in Bloomfield..But thats your call..
About Wylie Holdings, whoever stated they buy in crappy areas and whatever...I know those guys personally, both the father and son...Good business people...They make excellent choices and buys on properties...
Anyone with that many buildings has a few in some undesirable locations, but lets consider just one location for now...The one your looking at...

I went by and actually did not like the are the apartment was in. It is right by the busy bridge with little else around. I don't doubt how nice the guys are but I really did not like this location. Would not feel safe coming home at night....now I DID see a super cute apartment in Bloomfield that I think I will call home :-)

Bloomfield is great. You'll like it. Polish HIll is safe, but it is isolated and there's really nothing to do there. You would have had to walk across the bridge constantly. I'm glad you found a place you like. Your dogs will like the park in Friendship---well, patch of grass more than a park but at least there's somewhere to take them. LOL

a buddy of mine lives in Bloomfield. let me tell you a story:
Once we were hanging out down in Oakland and our car got locked in Soldiers and Sailors over night so we walked from Oakland to Bloomfield to spend the night at his house (yes...it's a VERY long walk).
We got up to the bridge and he said, "You can buy anything you want under this bridge...Alcohol, drugs, heroin, guns, cars, babies..."
just food for thought.

Sus,
Have you checked the friendship circle area, right by West Penn Hospital? The apartments are reasonable, and it's much safer.

Guess what? You can buy most of that stuff in Mt. Lebanon if you know the right people. You might remember the three Mt. Lebanon "gangstas" that killed a cohort up in Mt. Washington a few years ago. These guys had been selling drugs and such in Mt. Lebo, and the adults didn't have a clue. The kids knew though. Drugs have become so pervasive that they are literally everywhere. It's just that the poorer areas tolerate it being out in the open in a way that a place like Mt. Lebanon never would. There is a methadone clinic down on 51, just past the Red White & Blue. Think most of the patients are from nearby Beltzhoover or Knoxville? Think again. The vast majority are White, and I doubt that they are all from Allentown or Mt. Oliver either.
I've never understood the appeal of drugs.
