Default Dallas Super Bowl = One Huge Super Price

How many fan's out there are going to the Super bowl in Dallas to cheer on the Steelers ? As compared to Tampa a few years ago I'm getting the sense that far fewer local fans are going to Dallas. Of course the cheapest game tickets for the Packer-Steelers game are far higher priced than the Tampa Super bowl, which hosted the Steelers and Cardinals. Given the economy still sucks I find it amusing that ticket prices have bloated this much.

It does seem airfare and hotels are roughly the same as Tampa. It's a given hotels really bloat prices over super bowl week.

Where we dug into our wallets for the Tampa Steelers super bowl a few years ago, Dallas is more like oil money and outta my reach. ( side note) Word from Green Bay and Milwaukee is that tickets from the Packer side are selling very well. So whom here in the burgh is planning the costly trip to Dallas ?

I know some folks who are gearing up to take the 18 hour drive just to TAILGATE and be in the atmosphere, not go to the actual game.

There will be tons of Steeler fans. It won't be a total home game like Tampa was though. That was filled with Steeler fans. Packers have good fans. Probably second to the Steelers as far as crazy supporters.

I know five season ticket holders, one that has six seats and all struck out on the lottery for face value super bowl tickets. Unless the price comes down some I won't be making the trip. In Tampa we paid $1800 per seat in the lower end zone. Actually they were great seats. Sat right in front of Harrison's return. Those same seats in Dallas are running a good $ 1300 more than Tampa.

I know someone that says $700 a piece. They are probably gone, but there are people that sell them pretty cheap considering it is the Super Bowl.

Keep in mind, we are talking Packers vs. Steelers. Both teams have fans that travel and will pay. These two teams have some of the best fans in football. Maybe the best.

It occurred to me to wonder, given the discussion about how much money the playoffs bring in to the local economy--Given that the Steeler Nation travels so readily, all season long, how much money leaves the local economy following the team on the road?

It's an interesting thought, but keep in mind part of the reason that away games end up with so many Steelers fans is the widespread nature of the Steeler Nation. Only a portion of the Steelers fans at a really far away game would be people who came from the Pittsburgh area. The rest would be closer fans getting a rare chance to see their favorite team in person.

The division matchups make for more travel I think, since they're pretty close. Cincinnati is the farthest of the three. But really, some people, for just a day or maybe one night out of town generally, a few times a year in the fall, not too huge a hit on local economy.

Oh, I didn't figure it to be a huge hit, but I did wonder. Kind of, what is the "Steelers balance of trade" figure...
