Renting or owning? I see a property for 195 there. Is that what you're talking about? It's safe in that area, btw.

I'm thinking now I should rent first, to get my feet wet...

If you can afford an extra 100k, the following property is in an excellent location in Regent Square:

1043 Macon Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15218 - Trulia Real Estate Search

Coldwell Banker Real Estate Inc. Pittsburgh

There is also this 185k property in the same neighborhood:

7400 Trevanion Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15218 - Trulia Real Estate Search

Pittsburgh Real Estate and Homes - Homes and Real Estate in Pittsburgh PA - Prudential Preferred Realty

You don't need to worry as much if your renting.

I feel safe in all areas of Shadyside.

What's your monthly budget for rent?

Budget = $1000-$1200

(Although it would be nice to come in at just $1000)

Important Features:

1. Safety
2. Close walk to shops on Walnut
3. Garage Parking
4. Laundry in Building

One bedroom is OKAY. (My wife and I are planning, but if we're going to rent, it's not an issue yet.)

Here's a nice two bedroom for $1,200 with off-street parking, no garage:

New 2 BR apts. in Great Shadyside Location; Sept 1. (http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/apa/381957523.html - broken link)

Another two bedroom for $1,000 which doesn't say anything about parking:

A 3 bedroom for $990 with 'parking available':

Interesting 2 bedroom $975:

if you want to rent I would strongly suggest craigslist in connection with both pitt newspapers. I just found a spot in squirrel hill but we saw a nice 1bd a block from walnut for 800. It was our 2nd choice.

I won't clog up the thread with a follow-up, but I have further questions about Regent Square...I'd appreciate some responses via a new thread I'm starting... Thanks!

Unfortunately, I just found out that Shadyside has an extensive WiFi network. Since I've seen data indicating that there may be a correlation between WiFi and increased cancer risk, I am seriously rethinking my move. Are there any similar areas I could consider?
