Is there a place to look these up? When you click on anything on the enthusiasts website, it just takes you to a place where all you can do is e-mail a question. I'd like to see the houses, especially the ones in New Jersey.

If you click on this link and scroll down to the second post (authored by USEDtobe VAnc), you'll find a link that'll take you to the land of a thousand photos of Sears Homes.

Or you can google "sears homes" and find my site.

Thanks. I love these Aladdin Plaza houses. They went to the trouble of making separate left- and right-oriented versions. How cool is that? | Sears Modern Homes

I've come to the conclusion that I like houses faced with wood more than brick houses. And I love horizontality in architecture.

A friend of mine grew up in a house that looked a lot like the Magnolia, in Plainfield, NJ (the one in the photo, not the drawing in the advertisment). http://www.searshomes.org/index.php/...-in-benson-nc/

Default Interesting

Interesting you should mention a house in NJ. Sears had a huge mill there in Newark, and I've always imagined that we might find a Sears Magnolia somewhere around New Jersey.

Please post photos here or send them to me. I'm always on the lookout for another Magnolia, and will, in fact - drive many miles to see one!

True. I know there was one in Oakmont I sold back many years ago. There is also one in Fox Chapel, but I can't remember where it was. As I remember, it was a large home. If I think of it, I will post it, but that was many years ago.

I haven't been there in decades, literally. Here it is on Google Maps, hidden behind shrubbery: 919 W. 7th Street 07063 - Google Maps From what little you can see, does it look like a Sears home to you?

It's 17 miles southwest of the Weequahic section of Newark.

There might be a smaller one on Glenover Place. It was a ranch house if my memory is correct.

Default Yes...

It does bear a resemblance to a Sears Magnolia, but sadly...

It is not.

The Sears Magnolia was based on a popular style, kind of a blend between an American Foursquare and a Southern Colonial.

Magnolia in Canton, Ohio:

Magnolia in Benson, NC:

The this last one is in South Carolina.

Aren't they glorious?

I think they're just beautiful. Mmm-hmm. And the more I think about it, the more I remember really liking houses made of wood all throughout my life. I grew up in a neighborhood that was filled with them, and the house we lived in before that was a ranch house, also wood.

Is there a name for a house with a wood exterior? I don't really recall anyone differentiating between them and brick houses before.
