Smithfield is a about a 27 minute drive (and over Mt. Summit) to Nemacolin. Markleysburg is about a 13 minute drive to be both Nemacolin and Wharton School.

Uniontown district has the advantage over Albert Gallatin districtwide. I personally would prefer living in the mountains. One thing to keep in mind is access to grocery shopping.

what about Marclay school? It looks like is about 10 minutes away from Nemacolin...Anyone have any comments about or kids that have attended this school? If i wanted my kid to attend, what would be the designated area we should live?thanks for the help!

You are right. I forgot that Uniontown SD had two elementary schools in the mountains. Marclay is small with only 139 students in grades K-5. They share the same principal with Wharton and McMullen Middle School. Marclay School was recently constructed in 2005 but there has been discussion about closing the school.

Marclay's test performance is unusually high, especially compared to Wharton and Smithfield, see below:

Marclay School:

5th grade rank, 2011 (out of 281 local): 70
4th grade rank, 2011 (out of 308 local): 81
3rd grade rank, 2011 (out of 322 local): 42

You asked about the designated area where you should live; this could change virtually every year based on class sizes. If you live in the borough of Markleysburg or Henry Clay Township, your child will likley go to Marclay School. Google Henry Clay Township and it will outline a map of the township.
