I would agree with locating in the north area. It seems to be where the newbies are going. It's probably good to live with other people who are new to the area.

They have a mini water world as the community pool, Parker was the 26th best place to live by money magazine.
My question is what places are great for families, good for downtown commute and is reasonable to live. I read something about taxes, and an added tax upon closing on a home. We have a newer home here, four bedrooms plus loft in a pool community, and paid under 300k. I am a nervous wreck regarding where to buy and where we maybe happy. I love taking her to the zoo, parks and we swim everyday. Is there any drop off daycares in Pittsburgh? I would appreciate any help.

Then that would make Fox Chapel or Shaler the best options if she wants to live close to a drop-off day care.
Hampton would work too if she's just using it for emergencies. The ride would be 10 or 15 minutes from Hampton.

For people living in the O'Hara/Fox Chapel-Hamptom area, Sharpsburg is a great location. Is in the way to go Downtown and has excellent connections to Route 28 North & South. For living, this is an excellent community and it's virtually crime free. It also has pools, parks, libraries, and the zoo is a short drive from the area (Just crossing the Higland Park Bridge).

Thanks for your help
Thank you for your help, I will check into the drop off service, I have networked here in Colorado with other moms, but they always, always show up late from either one hour to two hours and I think it is rude. I would prefer a center that had more than one person checking up.. etc.
thanks for all the input.

You might need to re-adapt to networking in Pittsburgh, sbrobbie. I personally never care how many, or how long, children stay at my house. They're just children afterall.

also look at Indiana Township, next to Hampton.
Indiana Township is part of Fox Chapel School District.

My Husband is from pittsburgh and it is known that Sharpsburg is a high drug area. My sister lives in Highlands Ranch, Co and would love to move to Parker. Sorry to hear you are moving to Pittsburgh, however some nice areas are Cranberry township ( which is different from Cranberry) My father in-law lives there and they have two girls in the school system and seem very happy with it. It is about a 20 min commute to pitt. Good luck!!

What is the difference between Cranberry and Cranberry Twp? I thought they were one and the same.
