The husband and I just needed a change from Chicago. He's a native Chicagoan, I'd been there for 13 years. My parents and brother and sister-in-law live in the South Hills, so we were familiar with Pittsburgh.
Anyway, the low cost of living, the fact that it's a city on the rise instead of a city on the decline (as we believe Chicago is) and the opportunity for my husband to start up his own business are the main reasons we came here.

We've only been here a couple of weeks (bought a house in Lawrenceville) but like it thus far. I just need to meet some more people and find a good local watering hole!

Welcome to the neighborhood! I live in Lawrenceville and love how central the neighborhood to so many places of interest in the city and the suburbs too.

Thanks, Brad! I'm really happy to be here.

Any recommendations you have for the neighborhood in terms of restaurants or places to go would be most welcome!

Hambone's is decent restaurant and La Gourmandine on the 4600 black of Butler St has some really great baked goods. Further down at 3811 Butler Street the Coca Cafe has one of the best Sunday brunches in the city. There's usually a line well out the door on a nice day! Dozen Bakery on3511 Butler Street also makes some of the best cupcakes around. There are also several good places nearby in Bloomfield including Thai Cuisine, Alexander's Pasta Express, Silky's, Lombardozzi's, and Pleasure Bar which is supposedly one of the governor's more favorite places in the city. Del's is also a long standing Bloomfield and Pittsburgh establishment but depending on who you talk to, you will find people who love or hate it. There are a lot of other decent places around that I've never been to but would love to try. You also have to go to the Aresnal Lanes for bowling one night. It's isn't the most flashy bowling lane around by far but it has decent prices, good music, and you'll have a fun time if you like bowling.

Well, I'm just up the hill from you in Polish Hill, and I'm the "Karaoke KING!" If you hear some gangly-looking dork slaughtering "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel, then that would most likely be me! Now that I'm a gritty "Downtown man" dating an "Uptown" (Shadyside) "girl" (gay guy) this song evokes some more passionate feelings for me. Welcome to the city that's saved my life!

If you're looking for a hip bar, there's Round Corner Cantina in Lawrenceville and Instanbul for Middle Eastern food.
