You may have experience in COlorado, but what I've experienced in this town in NJ is different. There are reasons why so many people in this area have moved away, which are too many to name. I have no problem with groups of people, but what I do have problems with are groups of people that move in and then essentially push the people out who were already here first. Violence and gangs are some of the reasons and if you wouldn't mind living with a group of people who have caused this then you can come live here.

I agree Hispanics are on the same assimilation track we have seen with previous immigration waves.

So by the time Pittsburgh has a lot of Hispanics, I think it won't be much more notable than having a lot of Irish, Germans, or Italians. And in fact lots of people will only have some Hispanic background (assimilation eventually includes lots of intermarrying).

In the 100+ years of assimilation in CO, there has not been that much intermarriage, even though in many cases the Hispanics were here first. Working in pediatrics, I have noticed a little movement that way among the parents of very young children. However, it always seems to be a Hispanic man married to an Anglo woman, and little of the opposite.

I can understand where you're coming from Raven.

Not that Bloom is a great place to live either, but it's a lot better than Pitt.
I'm not sure where your from, maybe the safest city in United States perhaps, but Oakland (where the University of Pittsburgh is) is one of Pittsburgh's safer neighborhoods. Pittsburgh has high crime in certain neighborhoods and sectors of the city, but Oakland is not a "gang ridden" area what so ever...

That's not the case in Texas.

Not too long ago there was a lot of crime in Oakland. Not gangs, but rapes, burglaries, stolen cars, etc.

Well not all of Oakland is gang free. Part of South Oakland (south of the bullsvared and west of Bates Street) during 2005-2008 had a gang moment where the South Oakland Cripz (SOC) emerged. They started committing all kinds of crime including a few shootings. Now they just calmly claim turf in part of South Oakland, and you don't hear too much about crime in South Oakland on the news these days... In West Oakland west of Robinson Street (near Terrace Village border) bloods from the Terrace Village frequent the area and even claim turf in the area. So there are gangs in PARTS OF Oakland, yet none of them make a huge presence for them to be "gang ridden."
Also, there are alot of blacks around: "The 0," Center Avenue and North Oakland... To a racist idot that may be a sign of gang activity.
Perhaps to an Omnish person Oakland is da hood but to anyone else for the most part its A OK
