Default Job near Clairton, where to live?

Hi everyone,

Not planning on living near there, and kinda looking for big yard, older modest housing that is private/not on top of each other (max $225K, rather $150k-$175k).

Wondering if a home outside of the county within 15 miles is a good choice considering Allegheny property taxes, or if closer, say Bethel Park, South park, Upper St Clair, or some other area I am overlooking. I know $200k probably does not go that far nowadays since I left the area, and appreciate your insight.

Thanks!

I'd seriously consider Peter's Township in Washington County. It's relatively close to Clariton, and I think you'll be able to find a decent house within your price range. If taxes are your concern, someplace outside of Allegheny County may be where you want to look.

You also may want to consider Union Twp (zipcode 15038) in Washington County. It's a 10 minute drive to Clairton, but cheaper taxes in Washington County, as well as nice rural community with nice homes. a
Another possibility is to live just over the line in Westmoreland County. It's about a 15 + minute drive to Clairton, but again, cheaper taxes, nicer area, rural communities.

blessings, Shen

Thanks!

We just bought a newly remodeled 4 bedroom, 2 full bath, 2100 sq ft house in upper st. clair for 195,000. It takes 5-10 minutes to get to downtown or Robinson or South Hills Village Mall. It is a really nice neighborhood with no busy through-way traffic. Classic suburb.
